MG 49 – S40 Oxygen Sensor Replacement
Jan 20th, 2010 by mkokes

In this episode I replace an auction sensor on my 2001 Volvo S40. I discovered the problem when I started getting a check engine light, I pulled the codes with an OBD-II reader and the code it found was P0130 after some googling that pointed me in the direction of the oxygen sensor.

Hmm I dropped my video last night and it appears that there’s no sound post-encoding. I’ll repload it again tonight so don’t waste you time with the current one

MG 48 – Volvo S40 Timing Belt Replacement
Dec 29th, 2009 by mkokes

My volvo S40 has what’s called an intereference design engine, basicly what this means is that if the timing belt were to break the valve would stop moving and would hang in a position that would ‘interfere’ with the pistons path of travel. It wouldn’t really be an ‘oops pardon me while I squeeze by’ type of interference it would be possible broken piston heads and bent and broken valves.

Thus it’s recommend that the timing belt is replaced ever 100k miles, well right now I’m over 120k and I’m nervouse to say the least.

My dad was kind enough to help me out(did most of the work) and we got it done.

Who makes the best cars nowadays?
Nov 30th, 2009 by mkokes

I was just reading through a couple articles over on Jalopnik, primarily these two..

This one and that one

It really got me thinking how much everything is changing right now in the auto industry. Toyota it seems is really letting quality fall to the wayside. I really don’t think you can just say “The Japanese make the best cars” nowadays and just take it at that. Everything really seems to be in a state of flux at the moment.(who woulda thunkit?) I really feel that American manufacturers are finally starting to build better cars, and I can say this honestly without filling some sort of civic patriotic duty.

Fake, but funny

This is a pretty good spoof of an iPhone app

Rev 2.0 iPhone App
Nov 27th, 2009 by mkokes

I’m really really tempted to pick up this app for my iPhone. I’ve been kicking around the idea of getting a little netbook just to use for car diagnostics and shop stuff, but this is looking like it might be slightly more convenient.

Here’s another video where a guy give a more in depth presentation of the app and wireless functionality

Beer + Man + Couch = DUI?
Oct 22nd, 2009 by mkokes

This is pretty funny and the best part is it happened in my home state of MN!

500x_Hot_Rod_Couch

DULUTH, Minn. — A Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to driving his motorized La-Z-Boy chair while drunk.

A criminal complaint says 62-year-old Dennis LeRoy Anderson told police he left a bar in the northern Minnesota town of Proctor on his chair after drinking eight or nine beers.

Prosecutors say Anderson’s blood alcohol content was 0.29, more than three times the legal limit, when he crashed into a parked vehicle in August 2008. He was not seriously injured.

Police said the chair was powered by a converted lawnmower and had a stereo and cup holders.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Heather Sweetland stayed 180 days of jail time Monday and ordered two years of probation for Anderson. His attorney, David Keegan, did not immediately return a call for comment.
